Properties of Thick Film Paste
Control of TCR*, high ESD* resistance.
Thick film paste consists of metal powder, glass powder, inorganic oxide powder, resins, etc., dispersed in an organic solvent according to required functionality. It is used as electrodes, resistors, and insulators in small electronic components.
The properties of thick film paste need to meet requirements such as electrical properties, uniform dispersibility, smoothness and adhesion during drying, and shrinkage characteristics during sintering. Sumitomo Metal Mining possesses manufacturing and paste technology for the metal powders used in thick film paste and provides thick film paste that matches customers’ applications.
*TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance):
TCR indicates the degree to which the resistance value of a resistor changes with temperature variations. A smaller TCR value means that the resistance value is stable against temperature changes, making electronic devices less affected by temperature.
*ESD (Electrostatic Discharge):
ESD refers to the sudden discharge of accumulated static electricity, which can have harmful effects on electronic components and circuits. ESD measures are important in the design and manufacturing of electronic devices.
Lineup of Thick Film Paste
Lineup includes resistive paste, conductive paste.
Sumitomo Metal Mining’s thick film paste main product lineup includes paste for chip resistors widely recognized as industry standards, MLCC* electrode paste customized to customer requirements, and conductive adhesives used for die-attach chip components in IC and LED assemblies.
Additionally, thick film pastes tailored to customer requirements are also developed.
・Conductive Paste:Forms conductors using Au, Ag, Pd, Ni, Cu, etc., as conductive materials.
